M.

 Matt Smith or M. As he is known is an Artist based on the Gold Coast Australia. Smith is a Mixed medium artist working with acrylic, oil pastel, pastel on canvas and paper. Smith was a finalist in The Sydney Rocks Art Prize 2001 (2 Pieces). M. has exhibited his work in multiple galleries with a solo show on the Gold Coast and a group show in New York City.

Smith's work is in private collections in Europe, North America and Australia.

His Work is really a manifestation of his subconscious, using symbols and words charged with energy and meaning, with recurring themes of mythology, technology, redemption and transcendence.

Just as things were taking off for Smith, he put down his brushes. Walking away from art and began what he calls his “20 Years in Exile.”

It was the continuation of a search that would take him to the very cross road of his existence.

M.'s path back to painting was a long and painful one. M. vividly recalls.

“I was broken and defeated. I had searched everywhere. Literally and figuratively to try and fill the huge hole I had inside me, to no avail. It was never enough. I had crawled to the bottom of A very deep bottle. I remember howling at the moon and screaming out to the sky. I surrender. I give up. Please just take me now or tell me what to do. In that moment I heard a voice as clear as my own say, You know what to do, you have always known what to do, go do it!

In that moment my whole life changed and my exile and search had come to an end." 

M. is a true genius and master in his style, weaving the fabric of his heart and mind into intricately crafted worlds.

“I like to show you how I get to ideas as much as showing you the idea itself. I like to show you the space between.”
